I made a safari extension for fun, what it does is it changes the logo on Google.com to a custom one, or a random one picked from a database of Google Logos. You can download it at http://mrgeckosmedia.com/GLogoChanger.safariextz. I will be updating the database as new logos are released. I also wrote in my web language, that I talked about before on this blog, a logo generator that you can generate a Google like logo. Please take note that I wrote this for fun and that the Google logo is a trademark of Google. You can play with it at http://mrgeckosmedia.com/logogenerator.mgm.
Here is how it looks.
I want to request the Source Files for this extension, it uses some Techniques i would like to use as well for other things öoke my Split View extension or others, so where can i get them?
or mail them to me at atxx@me.com
thx in advance
Sorry but i donàt understand what i have to do after the installation of this extension…what i have to put into "home logo" and "search logo" to view my google.com personalized?
Thanks
@Atoxx It's just a zip, change the extension and open it.
@alby1729 Once you first install the extension, it defaults to randomly choosing a logo. If you want to customize it, you go into the preferences and set the Home Logo for http://www.google.com and Search Logo for the search results logo. It has to be an image and I am not sure about file urls, but you can try.
hi gecko,
downloaded and tried what you described in ur last comment…
file urls don't work, neither copying the file with command c and pasting with command v into search logo…
any help here bro?!
@Anthony Try uploading it to something such as dropbox and put in the http link to it.
I uploaded it to this site: http://applecracker.webs.com/Anthony.png
Now my settings are: Home Logo: http://www.google.com
Search Logo: http://applecracker.webs.com/Anthony.png
I do have to say that I live on Belgium thus the Google site in my country is
http://www.google.be
Have tried both *.com and *.be, but none of them worked.
Could u just try and hopefully find a fix… if you find one, please make a screenshot of the instructions…
thanks in advance
@Anthony I know how to make it work on .be, but there seems to be a bug in safari that is keeping me from doing that. I'm going to post in the forums for safari developers to see if I can get an answer.
Ok thanks!
Hope it will be fixed fast!
Got the randomizer to work fine, but any custom word just comes up as a broken icon. Help?
Hello and thanxxx, but the letter "Z" dont work …
hi gecko!
any update coming up to update the issue with the Belgian Google? (google.be) as described above
@Anthony None seems to know how to do it… The best Idea I have would be to accept every site and then have it figure out if it's google, but that might slow down every site you visit as the script for replacing stuff is pretty long. I could possibly move stuff to the global page, but I wouldn't know if it can manage elements from another page.
@Anonymous I fixed the z. It's hard to make every litter and know they all work.
thanxxxx a lot M. GECKO
I'm having issues with this. No matter what I do, it still defaults to the standard Google logos. Any ideas why?
@Markus Get the source code and fix it, then submit the fix. I have been really busy lately. The source code is at http://opensource.mrgeckosmedia.com/.
Agreed with Marcus. I have a mac with Lion OS. I have gone to https://opensource.mrgeckosmedia.com/ found the extension and still no luck. Please help.
